It's almost June and there are some fun things on the calendar. There are two in particular I'd like to mention, both happening on June 15.
At the California Museum, 1020 O. St. Sacramento, there's a show which has already opened, but June 15 is the big celebration from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
America at the Crossroads:The Guitar and a Changing Nation
At Harlow's in Midtown Sacramento, the Katie Knipp Band is hosting an album release party at 3:00, just a quick ride from the California Museum. Harlow's is located at 2708 J. St., Sacramento
The album is currently available at the band's shows as well as online on multiple platforms in CD, digital download and vinyl. A good place to buy it online is Bandcamp where you can also find her other Billboard charting albums and several more.
Please check back now and then for updated posts here. I'll reflect on some of the events I've covered. CLICK TO CONTINUE
What else is up this summer?

This image is from a Chicago concert at the California State Fair.
The CA State Fair has historically been one of the largest, if not THE largest of all events in the state every year until the pandemic began in 2020. Cal Expo, where the Fair takes place, became a testing and then vaccination location, assisting the Sacramento County Health Department. After a gradual re-launch, this year the Fair will be back with a rejuvenated presence! The lineup of musical acts on the main stage looks very impressive. I hope to be covering several shows there, along with an assignment to photograph bands who are members of the Sacramento Blues Society.
For several years, I was fortunate to work the Fair as an independent photographer. For the first few years, I only covered the Meet and Greet sessions with the bands who played the main stage concerts. Then I was given a full 17 day contract to cover just about everything the Fair had to offer. What great summers I had! For a couple of seasons, I was even allowed access at the front of the stage to get photos of the concerts. Overall it was great experience, covering many different types of events, like chainsaw carving, Splash Dogs, harness racing and several more. This year I have again applied for a media pass and plan go as many times as I can. Photos and/or links to galleries of those photos will appear on my social media pages as well as those of the Sacramento Blues Society and the local bands I photograph, while the Fair is underway. The Blues Society has expressed interest in also publishing my work in its monthly newsletter, Blue Notes.
