His work for Mayor Kevin Johnson of Sacramento afforded him extensive opportunities to photograph local and national celebrities and political figures.
​For several years, he covered the ongoing story of the Sacramento Kings and the push to build a new downtown Entertainment and Sports Complex, now known as DOCO. His work from the "Long Live the Kings" event graced the cover of the "Sacramento Visitors Guide, Fall 2013 Edition". In fact, Phil's work has graced many magazine, album covers, editorials, annual reports,
newspapers, event programs, advertising, websites, and more. ​

His extensive work covering Sacramento's rock n roll scene. The local music industry often relies on him to photograph and record their studio time, performances, video releases, and album covers.

Among his many additional photography projects are; Blues Divas Photos, commercial and residential real estate & architecture for advertising and marketing purposes, sporting events, portraiture, professional headshots, portfolio work, and pet photography.

He began video productions in 2010. Since then three of his collaborations were featured in the "Sacramento International Film and Music Festival". In 2019, he concluded a series of closed sessions for the "Emerging Musicians Project". 2020 highlights were the production for the "Sacramento Jazz Cooperative" and the launch of a series of online classes for cheesemaking at home.

From 2004-2013, I owned the biggest event planning company in Sacramento. Six Degreez. One of my clients was then Mayor Kevin Johnson. While organizing events for the Mayor, I had the good fortune to meet and work with his photographer – Phil Kampel. Witnessing first hand his photographic expertise, I would often contract with Phil to photograph many of my other events. I was never disappointed!
